Kulturnatten

The Festival

Parks and theatres and libraries; oh my! Kulturnatten (”culture night”) is an annual festival in Copenhagen, Denmark celebrating more than 250 museums, theatres, libraries, churches, and parks throughout the city. To attend, you need to purchase a Kulturpas (“culture pass”) button that gives you access to performances, workshops, food experiences, and more! Many of these places offer events that only occur once a year at Kulturnatten.

The Design

I was inspired by traditional Danish cross stitching and wanted to create an identity that was *cool* and not your-grandma’s-cross-stitched-flowers-and-puppies. To achieve a textural look like traditional cross-stitch, I overlapped three x’s— sometimes in one color and sometimes in multiple colors to give depth and create visual interest. I also used a mix of halftone patterns for more texture. The bright colors, smiley face sticker and 1800’s statues from the Thorvaldsens Museum create a visually interesting juxtaposition between history and modern day.
